It began with muddy boots, wild weather, and a tiny human tucked safely into a front pack.

Our first big family hike wasn’t about ticking off a trail or chasing perfect conditions. It was about curiosity, learning as we went, and discovering what adventure could look like with a baby in tow.

This story started on Rakiura / Stewart Island, on one of Aotearoa’s Great Walks. With changing weather, soggy socks, and moments of doubt, we learned quickly that the trail doesn’t always do what you expect and that’s part of the magic. Along the way, there were small wins, big lessons, and unexpected moments that made the journey unforgettable.

Why turn adventures into books?

When we went looking for children’s books that reflected our experiences; real trails, real weather and real learning, we struggled to find stories that felt true to life. We wanted books that showed effort, adaptability, and the joy of discovery, not just perfect sunny days.

So we decided to try writing them ourselves.
